Welcome to AvoMap! This page provides a complete overview of all editor features, helping you understand how to build, style, and export your animated map videos. Whether you're visualizing a travel route, telling a story, or showcasing a project, AvoMap gives you complete creative control.
📥 Import & Route Creation
Import Your Tracks
You can import your existing journeys using standard geodata file formats. AvoMap supports:
GPX (commonly used for fitness trackers, hiking, and biking routes)
KML (frequently used for Google Earth and map visualizations)
Create Custom Routes
Design routes directly inside AvoMap without needing a GPS file. You can:
Mix segment types (fly, drive, cycle, walk) to match real-world travel
Add unlimited segments to tell long and complex stories
Insert pauses to highlight special locations — perfect for landmarks or key transitions
Split or merge segments to fine-tune timing and camera behavior
Add stopovers between waypoints to redirect the route naturally
Use autocompletion to find places (cities, countries, 7,695 airports)
Click on the map to preview or fine-tune location placement instantly
🕒 Timeline Editor
The timeline provides a clear visual structure of your animation, letting you adjust how long each part of your route appears in the final video.
Each segment appears as a block proportional to its video duration
Drag to change the length (duration) of segments
Add Fly-In and Fly-Out animations and see their timing directly in the timeline
Hover or click to edit camera settings, add stopovers, or delete segments
🎥 Camera Control
AvoMap calculates the camera flight path based on elevation data and the created or imported path instead of a fixed, flat path. This means the camera intelligently adjusts its route to maintain a smooth, natural flow over the terrain.
This feature makes every video feel cinematic and avoids issues like the track drifting off-screen or cutting into the terrain.
💡 Want more control? You can still override the default path with manual camera settings.
Dynamic Camera
Enable this to let AvoMap automatically calculate smooth movements along your route. Perfect for users who want cinematic results without manually adjusting each angle.
Automatically adapts tilt, zoom, and rotation as the route curves or changes direction
Manual Camera Settings
If you want full creative control, set camera values per segment:
Zoom level to show more or less map
Tilt to change viewing angle from top-down to horizon-level
Bearing to rotate the view direction
Smoothness to control how fluidly transitions happen
Offset the camera position manually (fine-tuning x/y direction)
Fly-In & Fly-Out
These effects animate the camera zooming in from above or out to a wide view, ideal for intros and outros. AvoMap auto-calculates the best elevation to show your entire route at a glance.
🛣 Track Styling
Per-Segment Styling
Make your route stand out visually with:
Custom width, opacity, and color for each segment
Consistent or unique styling to match the story being told
Track Bubble
Add a moving icon to the start of your track for extra flair:
Customize with your own icon (PNG, JPG, SVG, WEBP)
Adjust border, size, color, and whether it lays flat (3D) or faces the user (2D)
Distance Counter
Showcase total distance travelled by enabling a distance box overlay. The number updates as the route progresses — great for fitness recaps or event summaries.
Flight Mode
When using flying segments:
Show or hide the airplane icon
Show or hide the dashed or solid flight path line connecting locations
📍 Symbols & Points of Interest
Symbols are how you add titles, labels, or icons to your map — great for adding context, highlighting stops, or storytelling.
Add symbols via the timeline or by clicking on the map
AvoMap auto-fills geographic metadata: city, region, country
Symbol Customization
Add up to 3 lines of text: Title, Subtitle, and Sub-subtitle
Customize fonts, sizes, colors, and stroke outlines
Upload your own symbol icons or choose from 100+ presets in four categories
Edit icon placement, rotation, opacity, and anchor points
Duplicate symbols or copy/paste design settings for consistency
Symbol Timeline
Control symbol visibility over time — fade in, fade out
Set symbols to appear once or multiple times in your animation
📈 Elevation Chart
Visualize the elevation changes of your route. This is ideal for hikes, bike rides, or marathon recaps.
Automatically generated (except for flying segments)
Customize chart line thickness, height, color, and distance markers
A bubble shows current elevation as the video plays
Fine-tune X-axis labels: font, number, decimal points, color
Recalculate if the route is changed or extended
🌍 Map Layers & Terrain
Change how your map looks with a variety of base styles:
Choose from 10 map designs including street, satellite, and minimalist
Enable 3D terrain by default for added depth
Adjust terrain exaggeration to make hills and mountains more dramatic or flatter
🖼 Custom Logo & Branding
Personalize your video with your own branding:
By default, an AvoMap logo is shown
You can remove this for 2 render credits
Upload your logo in PNG, JPG, SVG, or WEBP
Resize and position it to fit your video format
